I began to wonder why FM stations continue to persist in an age defined by advanced digital technologies. What purpose do they still serve? This question arose as I began thinking about SeedCast. While writing this seed, I also realized that it might be useful to record the music a user is listening to whenever they play a track. As I write this, for example, I am listening to “Betty Blue” by Palmbomen II. There is something about music that sets the mood for writing and enhances the imagination. At other times, however, thinking requires silence, so SeedCast should include a toggle for muting the audio. This led me to ask: why does FM radio still persist, and what makes it relevant? I began to think of FM as a network of threads—high-voltage strands that produce sound waves and can be manipulated to transmit encoded meaning across vast distances without requiring centralized digital infrastructure. This technology may be one of the most resilient media for disseminating localized intellectual signals because it bypasses the fragility of centralized, high-latency digital networks in favor of a broadcast architecture that preserves the continuity of human expression (Osada, 2026). In the age of AI, this broadcast architecture could evolve into a form of semantic radio. Artificial intelligence would synthesize fragmented historical accounts into conversational representations while respecting the nuances of human intellectual commitments. A radio station would then function not merely as a transmitter of curated audio, but as an active agent of knowledge synthesis—transforming archived thought into dynamic, context-aware dialogues that bridge the gap between static intellectual records and real-time human inquiry (MAYDA, 2022; Regouga et al., 2020). It should therefore not be governed solely by corporate algorithms, but instead function as a public utility for preserving and serendipitously discovering collective memory (Kischinhevsky et al., 2023). Within Guava Nexus, intellectual witness is preserved through evidentiary artifacts. Semantic radio would serve as the broadcasting mechanism that recontextualizes those fragments into conversational audio threads, ensuring that the authority of human authorship remains bound to its original, documented testimony (Ross, 2026a, 2026b). In apocalyptic films, radio often serves as the final enduring tether to survival. This image reflects the resilience of contemporary AM/FM infrastructure, which can maintain hyperlocal connections even when centralized digital networks fail (Mittal et al., 2024, 2025). By formalizing semantic radio as a correlation-driven routing process, we can move beyond superficial synthesis and ensure that broadcasts function as reliable transductions of structured human thought (Figurelli, 2026). By modeling Transformer inference as a routing operator rather than as a creative generator, we can also seek to preserve the invariants of the original intellectual record across independently trained models (Figurelli, 2026). And yet, even with all these facts, it seems like FM/AM stations remain technologically underserved, or am I just not yet well informed about the current industry?
